Si el ayuntamiento de Madrid fuera de izquierdas, y con sentido del humor, quizá se pudiera llegar a un acuerdo municipal por el que se le otorgara a Donald Trump el nombre de una calle madrileña. Es coherente. Pongamos por caso, la calle Leganitos, en el distrito centro, una vía importante e histórica aunque un poco marginal y oscura y, no por casualidad, llena de comercios con propietarios de origen chino, como por ejemplo el restaurante autoexplicativo “Chinese Food”, en el número 24, la peluquería Tay Yang Feng o la librería Liang You, entre otros. A partir del acto de presentación de esa resolución, el ayuntamiento de Madrid, en todas las comunicaciones públicas en las que tuviera que referirse al actual presidente de los Estados Unidos, lo haría con el nombre de “Sr. Leganitos”. Esto es algo que quizá hubiera podido suceder en los años ochenta, cuando un señor en su sano juicio decidía, como parte del rumbo social e simbólico de la ciudad, los odónimos de sus calles. En este caso, se trataría de una reversión del efecto odonímico pero, seguro, también entre sus competencias. El nombre de la calle Leganitos, según una rápida investigación, proviene del árabe «al-gannit», que significa «huertas» o «de las huertas», ya que antiguamente esa zona estaba cultivada por moriscos.

If the Madrid city council were left-wing, and with a sense of humour, perhaps they could reach a municipal agreement to name Donald Trump after a Madrid street. It is coherent. Let’s take Leganitos street, in the central district, an important and historic passage, although a bit marginal and obscure and, not by chance, full of shops with owners of Chinese origin, such as the self-explanatory restaurant ‘Chinese Food’, at number 24, the hairdresser Tay Yang Feng or the bookshop Liang You, among others. From the act of presentation of this resolution onwards, the Madrid City Council, in all public communications in which it had to refer to the current president of the United States, would do so with the name ‘Mr. Leganitos’. This is something that could perhaps have happened in the 1980s, when a man in his right mind decided, as part of the social and symbolic direction of the city, the names of its streets. In this case, it would be a reversal of this odonymic effect, but surely, also among its competences. The name of Leganitos street, according to a quick investigation, comes from the Arabic ‘al-gannit’, which means ‘orchards’, as this area was formerly cultivated by the Moors.
